This Past Weekend's Cleanup: Oakland Gets It Done

Oakland,
The Mayor's Office wanted to share some good news from this past weekend's cleanup efforts across our community. From October 31st through November 3rd, our Keep The Town Clean (KTTC) teams were out in force, transforming neighborhood after neighborhood across East Oakland.
BART Tracks Transformation
One of our most impressive projects took place along the BART tracks from E 8th and 7th Avenue all the way to 14th Avenue. Our crews tackled a huge stretch of weeds and debris that were blocking sidewalk use by cutting back overgrown weeds, hauling away illegally dumped trash and tires, and clearing debris that had accumulated along the street edge.
After our cleaning and beautification team finished, street sweepers came through to clean the entire roadway. Then our Graffiti Abatement squad put the finishing touches on the work, painting every pole and the full wall alongside the BART tracks in Cal Trans Grey. The result? A dramatically cleaner, safer corridor that our community can be proud of.
Citywide Sweep
Beyond the BART cleanup, our KTTC crews from our Public Works Department fanned out across the International Boulevard and San Leandro Street corridors, covering International from High Street to 82nd Avenue and San Leandro from High Street to 81st - including blocks both north and south of each main street.
The weekend sweep also hit known hot spots throughout the area, from E 12th between 14th and Fruitvale, down San Leandro Boulevard from 50th to 105th, along Mountain and Fontaine, and dozens of other locations where residents had reported issues.
By the Numbers
All told, our crews completed 221 service requests this weekend alone - tackling everything from illegal dumping to overgrown vegetation to graffiti removal. That's 221 issues resolved, 221 neighborhoods improved, 221 reasons to be proud of what we can accomplish when we put Oakland first.
This is what responsive city government looks like. When you report a problem, our teams spring into action. When neighborhoods need attention, we show up and get it done.
Oakland, we see you. We hear you. And we're working every day to make our streets cleaner, safer, and more beautiful for everyone who calls this city home.
