Mayor Barbara Lee convenes economic development working group

Oakland, CA –   On Monday, Mayor Barbara Lee convened the Mayor's Economic Development Working Group at OakStop on Monday, bringing together leaders from business, workforce development, arts and culture, small business, education, and community organizations to shape an inclusive, creative, and community-rooted economic strategy for Oakland.

The collaborative working session focused on Mayor Lee's five-point economic vision: attracting and retaining key sectors, supporting small businesses, building Oakland's workforce, telling Oakland's comeback story, and amplifying the city's social and cultural life.

The session featured facilitated breakout discussions where participants provided input on economic development policies, small business support, workforce development, narrative change, and arts and culture integration.

The Mayor's Economic Development Working Group  group aims to spark collaboration, uplift existing successes, and identify what's needed to Keep The Town Open for Business - vibrant, safe, and rooted in equity.

The working group continues the administration's intensive community engagement efforts, building on dozens of roundtables and listening sessions conducted during Lee's first 76 days in office.
