Emergency Preparedness and Protecting Immigrants
In response to escalating federal immigration enforcement actions across the country, Mayor Lee convened elected officials, faith leaders, law enforcement, labor unions, and community advocates to send a clear message: Oakland is a city of refuge. She signed two Executive Orders: "Protect The Town," which established a citywide task force, provided Know Your Rights resources, directed legal action against federal enforcement, and reinforced that OPD will not act at the direction of the National Guard or federal authorities if troops are deployed to Oakland; and a second order prohibiting the use of any City property as a staging area, processing location, or operations base for federal immigration enforcement operations, unless required by law. Both orders were backed by staff training in partnership with City labor unions to ensure full compliance across all City departments.
